News flash: Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus during a big press conference on Wednesday. Since this is probably the first you’re hearing of these mysterious new iPhones, we’ll give you a moment to absorb the news.

Here's a look at some of the features we may see on the new iPhone, as well as what we really want Apple to reveal on Wednesday:

It will likely sport dual cameras.

This is the rumor with the most traction: Apple will add two rear cameras to improve photo quality. An August report from Bloomberg notes the cameras will each capture an image at the same time, then merge them together. The cameras will also reportedly bump up to 12 megapixel sensors.

Say goodbye to the headphone jack.

Here's the early favorite for the iPhone change most likely to anger nearly everyone. Apple will remove the headphone jack, requiring users to go through the smartphone's Lightning connector or use wireless headphones that connect via Bluetooth. With the headphone jack gone, it's likely Apple will also introduce new earbuds. And of course, get ready for another wave of adapters to use your old headphones.

It will support some level of waterproofing.

Yes, Samsung smartphone owners, you have boasted this feature for a while now.According to 9to5Mac, research firm KGI projects the next iPhone can handle going underwater by as much as 3 feet for 30 minutes.

It will be faster, thinner and lighter.

This one is pretty obvious. As with every other iPhone revealed, the device will likely support a better processing chip. Plus, without that pesky headphone jack, the smartphone should feel thinner and lighter compared to earlier models.

Siri and iMessages will behave a lot differently.

Apple's personal digital assistant will perform even more tasks, including search for images in Pinterest or hail a ride on Uber. As for iMessages, Apple will follow in the footsteps of Snapchat (because that's what every tech company is doing lately) and introduce more visual options including stickers and more emojis.

Now, to the iPhone options we really want:

Better battery life. Yes, Apple always says the battery has improved with each new iPhone. We just want one that gets through a full day (maybe even two) without a recharge.

A base model at 32GB. No more 16GB iPhones, please. The process of managing photos, apps and other downloads has reached the point where users are pretending to rent movies to free up space. We're long overdue for more storage at the entry level.

Better app flexibility. Anyone else have the folder on their iPhone that contains all the Apple apps you never use? It's time to have the choice to delete those apps if we want.

iPhone 7: Release date, price, leaked pictures, and all the latest news and rumours about Apple's new iPhone

Apple is expected to reveal the next iteration of its ever-popular iPhone on Wednesday.

The Californian tech giant usually updates its smartphone lineup in early September so it can see out the end of the year on a high.

This year it will almost certainly be the iPhone 7 that's revealed, and the online rumour mill is going into overdrive ahead of the announcement.

From photos leaked from factories in China, and concept images created by digital artists, to choice information from people with insider knowledge of Apple's plans, the internet is abuzz with information on the the new smartphone.

Release date

Apple has sent out invitations for an event, where it is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 7 .

The event is taking place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 7, at 10am local time, (6pm BST).

Apple often likes to include a hidden message in its invitations, but this one gives very little away.

It carries the tagline "See you on the 7th" - which may allude to the name of the iPhone 7, as well as the date.

Ramps Up Ahead of Launch

Following tradition, a new report out of Apple's supply chain is hinting that the company "may need to contend with a supply shortage" for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, citing vague issues with "faulty components" as the central problem (via Nikkei). Similar stories have emerged before the launch of the new iPhone nearly every year, stemming from Apple's annual late-summer production ramp-up ahead of the September iPhone reveal. "If Apple sticks to its launch schedule from last year, there may not be enough supply at the beginning, as some suppliers are still trying to fix low yield rates of their components," an industry source familiar with the issue said. Apple is said to be staying close to its launch schedule from last year, which could lead to low supply "during the first round of the rollout," resulting in low yield rates, higher costs for manufacturers, and subsequently less volume to deliver to customers. Yuanta Investment Consulting analyst Jeff Pu believes total iPhone 7 builds to be 10 million less than that of the iPhone 6s last year. Pu cut his forecasts for iPhone production to 114 million from 120 million, including both new and old models, in the July-December period, due to defects in the waterproof speaker and dual-camera module, which have yet to be resolved. "We estimate total iPhone 7 builds to be 74 (million) in 2H16F, compared to 84 (million) for iPhone 6s in 2H15. Together with pricing pressure, we expect most Apple food chain suppliers to see (year-on-year) revenue decline for the rest of the year," Pu wrote in a note dated Aug. 23. Continuing the usual doom-and-gloom sentiment regarding Apple's 2016 iPhone sales, the new report points to "weakening demand" for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as a contribution to manufacturing numbers falling as well. Apple's own orders are said to be "conservative" this year compared to years past, with individual components dropping precipitously year-over-year. According to various sources, core processor chips "may drop up to 15 percent," and panel orders "are dropping around 20 percent," both compared with the company's 2015 supply chain orders. Although it's true that the iPhone 7 will be a modest update on the iPhone 6s, like every model before it, the 2016 iPhone is expected to see a heavy influx of pre-orders the day it goes live on Apple's website, currently rumored for September 9. Users will then have to wait a few weeks to get their hands on the smartphone, with a launch either onSeptember 16 or September 23. Related Roundup:
